5 Reasons Why Blocking Out Light is the Single Most Important Factor to Improving Sleep

Woman sleeping peacefully with sunlight casting patterns on her face.

Blocking out 100% of light is the single most important key to getting a good sleep.

If you are sick of waking up after a full 8 hours sleep and still being tired.

If you want to consistently sleep better.

If you want to wake up feeling refreshed and full of energy, like you just had the best sleep of your life.

If you want a natural, easy and instant solution to your sleeping troubles.

This is the missing key that you need.

Find Out The 5 Biggest Reasons Why Blocking Out Light is So Important Below:

Let's start with the big one...

1. Light Affects Melatonin Production

You know melatonin? The hormone that makes you sleep?

Light interrupts your body's production of it.

"When it's dark your body converts serotonin into melatonin, making you sleep. When it's light your body does the opposite, converting melatonin into serotonin, waking you up."

Even the smallest amount of light can interfere with this process.

No wonder it's so hard to sleep during the day.

But it's also an issues at night too, especially with how much artificial light there is in our world now.

By blocking out 100% of light we can encourage the conversion of serotonin into melatonin, helping us to naturally drift off into the best possible sleep.

2. Light Affects Your Ability to Get Deep Sleep

Have you ever woken up after a full 8 hours sleep and still been tired?

Strange right? You did everything right, you got enough sleep, but you're still tired.

That's because it's not how much sleep you get that matters, but the quality of that sleep.

How much deep sleep you get is more important than how long you sleep for.

Your sleep goes in cycles, usually 4-6 cycles a night.

Your body cycles between light sleep, and deeper REM sleep.

The deeper REM sleep being the more important stage.

So where does light come into this?

Well light can interfere with your bodies ability to enter these deeper sleep cycles, without you even knowing it.

If you are asleep in a lighter stage of your sleep cycle, light can prevent your brain from truly relaxing into the deeper stages of sleep.

Or, if you are in a deeper state of sleep, light can interrupt it, putting you into a lighter stage without you even knowing.

This is why you can wake up and still be tired after 8 hours sleep, and why blocking out light is so important.

3. Your Eyelids are Not Enough

Some people assume their eyelids are enough to block out light and get them to sleep.

I mean, that's what they are designed for right?

But if you think about it, this isn't actually the case - otherwise you'd be able to close them in the middle of the day and go to sleep.

Instead, when you close your eyes you can still see light come through them, like shining a torch through your hand.

This is why it's so much easier to sleep at night, in 100% darkness, or while wearing our 100% block out sleeping mask.

4. Light Interferes with your Circadian Rhythm

Your circadian rhythm is an internal 24-hour clock that governs your body’s processes such as sleep.

Your circadian rhythm is regulated by a small region of your brain called the circadian pacemaker.

When light enters your eye it is detected by cells in the retina, your brain then uses this information to determine the time of day.

Your brain then sends signals to your body, telling your organs and other bodily processes how to function based on that time of day.

Under natural light conditions your circadian rhythm synchronises with the natural cycle of sunrise and sunset - promoting wakefulness during daylight and sleep during darkness.

However, in modern society artificial light sources can disrupt this synchronisation.

As can the perfectly normal modern lifestyle of staying up later than sunset, and sleeping in through the early sunrises.

This poorly timed exposure to light can misalign your circadian rhythm and disrupt your sleeping pattern.

By blocking out 100% of light while sleeping, you can help your body's circadian rhythm align to your sleep patterns, and prevent artificial light and early sunrises from affecting them.

5. It's Common Sense

I think we've gone deep enough into science backed reasons why light affects sleep, so let's just end it with this:

I don't think you need any more science to convince you that it's easier to sleep, and you get better quality sleep, when it's dark.

It just is.

The human body has not yet evolved to deal with modern life.

Artificial light is everywhere and impossible to avoid.

Our sleeping patterns do not line up with sunrise and sunset.

No wonder so many people are walking around tired all the time - I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of us are sleeping in suboptimal conditions.

Make sleep as easy as possible for your body by blocking out 100% of light.

Give your brain the best chance of giving you the best sleep possible and I'm sure you will notice the difference.

So are you ready to experience the benefits of 100% darkness?
