Why Should You Tape Your Mouth Closed While You Sleep?

Mouth breathing is responsible for a number of sleep issues. By taping your mouth closed while you sleep with mouth tape, you prevent these issues.

Mouth Breathing Can Cause Snoring
Mouth breathing could be the cause of your snoring. When I started mouth taping the first thing my partner noticed was that I wasn't snoring anymore. That alone made it the best investment in my health this year.
Improved Sleep Quality
Mouth Breathing Can Affect Sleep Quality. People who breathe through their mouth at night may experience symptoms of poor sleep quality such as waking up tired and irritable, chronic fatigue, brain fog and dark circles under the eyes. This is because breathing through the mouth during sleep can lead to snoring, sleep apnea, and fragmented sleep.
Mouth Breathing Causes Bad Breath
Mouth breathing can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the mouth, potentially leading to bad breath and oral infections. If you wake up with a dry mouth, sore throat, and bad breath, chances are it's due to mouth breathing.
Mouth Breathing Causes Dry Mouth and Dental Issues
During sleep, mouth breathing decreases intra oral pH as compared to normal breathing. This lowered pH can lead to erosion of tooth surfaces, increased sensitivity of the teeth to temperatures and susceptibility to tooth decay.
You Sleep 8 Hours Every Night
If you breathe through your mouth during exercise that's only a small amount of your breathing each day. However, if you breathe through your mouth while sleeping then that's a full 8 hours of mouth breathing every single night!

Why is this the best sleep tape in Australia?

We designed the best mouth tape for sleep in Australia. We believe it is the best mouth tape for sleep in Australia for a couple of reasons.

Stays on All Night

Our mouth tape is strong enough to stay on all night.

Not only does it have the right adhesive to stay on all night, it has the right shape.

A small square in the middle of your mouth may not stay on all night.

A long strip covering your entire mouth is very unpleasant and suffocating.

The unique X shape of our tape creates extra surface area to stick to your skin, while still allowing you to breathe through the sides of your mouth.

Gentle to Remove

While our mouth tape is strong enough to stay on all night, it is also gentle to remove.

Other tapes that are strong enough to stay on all night, can actually be too strong and hurt to remove.

Allows you to Breathe Through your Mouth

This may be counterintuitive as mouth tape is designed to help you breathe through your nose.

However, mouth tape only needs to gently hold your lips closed, this is enough to help you breathe through your nose while you sleep.

You do not need to seal your entire mouth shut. This is incredibly unpleasant.

The unique X shape of our sleep tape allows you to breathe through the sides of your mouth if you need to.

Porous Breathable Tape

Our mouth tape for sleep is made from a porous, breathable material, which allows your skin to breathe while you wear it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our mouth tape for sleep is designed to stay on all night.

Our mouth tape is design to come off without hurting your lips, but still be strong enough to stay on all night.

I myself have facial hair and the mouth tape stays on all night for me.

This is because I stick the sleep tape to my lips, not my facial hair.

Our sleep tape will not stick to facial hair, it is designed to stick to skin.

I have seen mouth tape for sleeping advertised that claims it will stay on if you have a beard.

Personally, I would be very concerned about sticking a sleep tape that's strong enough to stick to hair, on my lips.

And I'd be even more concerned if that tape had absolutely no room to breathe through the sides of your mouth while wearing it.

Yes. You can breathe through the sides of your mouth while wearing our mouth tape.

This might sound like it defeats the purpose of wearing mouth tape to sleep, but believe me it doesn't.

Our sleep tape's unique X shape is designed to be the best possible shape to stay on all night, and still allow you to breathe through your mouth if needed.

A small square of sleep tape in the middle of your mouth may not stay on all night.

A long strip of tape covering your entire mouth is unnecessary and unpleasant.

The X shape allows for extra sticking power, without covering your entire mouth.

The purpose of sleep tape is to keep your lips gently sealed so that you breathe through your nose while you sleep.

The purpose is not to tightly seal your entire mouth shut with strong tape so that you cannot breathe through your mouth, even if you want to.

If you lips are gently sealed shut, which our mouth tape does, this is enough to keep you breathing through your nose all night.

The idea of wearing mouth tape for sleeping was first introduced to me when I read Breathe by James Nestor.

The entire book is about how to breathe correctly, and why it is so important to.

The biggest factor in breathing correctly is to breathe through your nose.

Most people already do this while they are awake, unless they are exercising, which is only an hour or 2 a day so can't have too much impact.

However, we spend 8 hours a day sleeping.

And a lot of people spend this 8 hours breathing through their mouth.

Wearing mouth tape fixes this.

I am not going to make any medical claims here, you can read our reviews if you want to see what our customers are experiencing.

All of the reviews are genuine.

You can also read Breathe by James Nestor, or just Google the symptoms of mouth breathing.

The purpose of wearing mouth tape is to stop you from breathing through your mouth while you sleep.

Mouth breathing has many horrible side effects.

You can try wearing our mouth tape to stop you from snoring.

It stopped me from snoring.

Will it stop your from snoring?

I don't know, but there are many other reasons to wear sleep tape to stop mouth breathing at night so it's worth wearing it, even if you still snore.

We have a review from a customer which claimed our mouth tape helped her sleep better.

This is a genuine reivew.

I am not going to claim our mouth tape will help you sleep better.

The benefit of mouth tape is not to help you sleep better.

I can only speak from my personal experience.

At first, wearing mouth tape to sleep is unpleasant.

I think it made my sleep worse because I would struggle to breathe while wearing it.

However, now I am used to it and wearing wearing mouth tape to sleep for a full night, I can no longer sleep without wearing mouth tape.

In my experience, I don't think I sleep better, I think I sleep the same, but I do think I wake up feeling better and a lot more refreshed.

So I would say it's possible the quality of my sleep is better, or my health is just better in general.

This is the entire point of wearing mouth tape to sleep.

If you didn't struggle to breathe through your nose, you wouldn't need to wear mouth tape to sleep.

Over time (much less time than you'd think), your nose will open up more, you will get used to breathing through your nose, and it will become easier, and natural.

For me, before wearing mouth tape to sleep, I was unable to breathe through my nose while sleeping.

It only took me a week to go from unable to breathe through my nose, to sleeping a full night wearing mouth tape.

I have now been wearing mouth tape to sleep for over a year and cannot sleep without it.

Sleeping with mouth tape is not enjoyable at first, I will be the first to admit that.

It took me around a week to get used to sleeping with mouth tape, now I can't sleep without it.

Because of this, we have a 30 day return policy.

If after trying our mouth tape for a full 30 days, you still don't like it, we will refund you.
